Church History
and Ministry Background
Miracle Temple Church of Faith was founded in Indianapolis by Bishop Charles W. Johnson, Sr., and his lovely wife Elect Lady Rochelle Johnson in 1999. Bishop Joyce Cannon (who was pastor at that time) met Rochelle before her husband became a pastor and before the church was established. God gave Bishop Joyce Cannon a word for Rochelle, that her husband would become a pastor and establish a church. In spite of unbelievers, the prophecy came to pass and was fulfilled, which gives evidence of a true prophetess and God’s will. God put a calling on his life to serve the people of God. The church began in Pastor Johnson’s home where he grew up as a child, located at 1822 Koehne Street.
Pastor Johnson began with the help of God to work in the wilderness, preaching, teaching, and reading to lost souls, letting them know there is a True and Living God who can save, heal, deliver, and make whole. The Outreach Ministry began to flourish, helping and reaching out to the needs of God’s people and focusing on the homeless.
From 2000 to 2003 he attended Cathedral of Praise, when another door opened at 620 East Street at the Brick Layers building downtown. There Pastor Johnson had two dedicated members, his wife Elect Lady Rochelle Johnson and his sister Evangelist Denise Johnson. On Sunday, May 21st, 2006, family and friends joined together for Pastor Johnson’s ordination service.
Later that year Pastor Paul Hooks of Emmanuel Freewill Baptist Church opened its doors to Pastor Johnson and the Miracle Temple Church of Faith to hold night services there at 911 Edgemont St. In 2007, Pastor Johnson was blessed with a new building at 1901 West 15th Street, to come and go as he pleased to worship, praise and glorify God day and night. Pastor Johnson continued to serve in the ministry as another door opened through Bishop Laurence Owens. On August 7, 2011, Pastor Johnson received his Suffragan Bishop License. Then on February 14th, 2012, he became International Bishop Charles W. Johnson.
In May 2021, through much praying, fasting, and perseverance, Miracle Temple Church of Faith celebrated its 15th year anniversary—to God be the glory. And we are still standing, and we are still the place “Where We Expect Miracles.”
